Compliance Monitoring & Permit Renewal

Eglin Air Force Base, Florida

OB/OD Units: Ranges C-52 & C-62

TRINITY Analysis & Development Corp. (TRINITY) completed the 2010 renewal of Eglin AFB’s RCRA Part B Subpart X Permit and conducted the annual ground water compliance monitoring and reporting for two Open Burn/Open Detonation (OB/OD) units located within the Eglin AFB reservation.  The units are located within two active Test Areas: Range C-52N and C-62. Range C-52N is one of the most active “air-to-ground” test ranges within the United States Air Force.  The two areas are utilized for the demilitarization or destruction of a variety of munitions and unexploded ordnance (UXO) collected from test missions around Eglin and from the ammunition yards.

Subtask 1: Compliance Monitoring & Reporting: Annual ground water monitoring and reports for the disposal facility are required in accordance with Specific Conditions Part V, Number 7 of Eglin’s Hazardous and Solid Waste Amendment (HSWA) Permit 0006176-005-HO issued by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), under RCRA.  Ground water monitoring involves coordination with Air Force Range Operations Control (ROC) and Eglin AFB Explosive Ordnance Demolition (EOD) teams since the sites are located within active bombing/testing facilities.

Subtask 2: RCRA Permitting: Pursuant to the Solid Waste Disposal Act and 40 CFR 264.101 (as adopted in Rule 62-730.180, of the Florida Administrative Code), the permit is issued under the provisions of Section 403.722, Florida Statutes and Florida Administrative Code Chapters 62-4, 62-25, 62-160, 62-522, 62-532, 62-550, and 62-730 for Eglin AFB to operate the two OB/OD Units at C-52N and C-62.
